The increase in water volume from Goronyo and Bakolori Dam in Talata Mafara in Zamfara state, has hindered the continue search of seven occupants of Avensus saloon vehicle that plunged into the river along Tashar Illela after hitting a cyclist.

The vehicle which which was yet to be identified from where it comes from, had a collision with a motorcycle rider after which the driver lost control and hit a bridge and plunged in to the already submerged river.

It took a combined team of fire service personnel and local fishermen two days before they were able to locate and vehicle with only one dead body inside.

It could be recalled some time last week, that the said bridge had to be closed to heavy duty vehicles due to increase in the volume of water moving under the bridge.

The bridge which served as a link to over 8 local government areas in the eastern part of Sokoto, has been in existence for over 50 years.

Sokoto state has never witnessed the kind of flood that ravaged over 15 local government areas, with some severe casualties.

People of the state have been calling on the federal Government to commenced the dredging of Goronyo Dam so as to accommodate more water and arrest the flooding.

The sokoto state Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, had since visited the site where the ill-fated vehicle Summersault.

The Governor charged drivers to obey the traffic rules and regulations and as well stop excess speeding to save lives.

He said most accidents that consumed innocent lives were as a result of dangerous driving and over speeding.

Governor Tambuwal who was seen visibly worried at the scene, prayed Allah to repose the souls of the occupants of the ill-fated vehicle. NNL.
