Nigeria's Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has implored governors of the North East geo-political zone to do away with political party differences and focus only on issues of common interests that affects their respective states for the overall development of the region in particular and Nigeria in general.
Shettima also asked them to work in synergy with the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) to facilitate timely completion of all the on-going federal government projects across the zone and initiate new ones.
He made the exhortation at the opening of the 8th meeting of North East Governors Forum (NEGF) held in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

Senator Kashim Shettima who said the North Eastern part of the country is grossly affected by various forms of criminal activities, however, maintained that through collective efforts by the Governors and relevant bodies, the zone would address the current economic hardship being experienced by vulnerable population.
The Vice President said completion of the on-going projects would pave way for the commencement of other road construction projects, including Bauchi-Gombe, Maiduguri-Dambua, Gujiba-Biu and Numan-Adamawa roads, among others.
The Vice President also used the opportunity to inaugurate distribution of food and non-food items across the six states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.
The items procured by NEDC include 240,000 bags of rice, 71,000 cantons of Macaroni and spaghetti, 34,500 gallons of vegetable oil 70,000 pieces of blankets, 70,000 pieces of mats as well as textile materials. NNL.
