As the race for 2023 general election gathers momentum, former minister of Transport and later Youths and Sports, Yusuf Suleiman, has been appointed as the Sokoto State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign Director General.
Making the announcement Sunday at the International Conference Center, Kasarawa, Sokoto, the State Chairman of PDP, Hon Aliyu Goronyo, announced numerous other persons into diverse positions.
Those appointed include campaign councils and networks across the 23 local government areas of the state.
As the party's chairman continued to reel out names of members of the various committees, cheers and thunderous ovation from the waiting party supporters greeted the mention of Commissioner of Health and overseer of Ministry of Finance, Hon. Muhammed Ali Inname and the Director General, State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Mukhtari Maigona, amongst those to pilot the campaigns as well.
In his acceptance speech, the former Minister and APC governorship aspirant, Yusuf Suleiman, said he will give his very best in collaboration with all members of the various committees to deliver victory for PDP candidates from presidency to the councilor levels.
Yusuf added that, "We will ensure that vote of Nigerians and that of the good people of Sokoto counts by following every step of the election.
"We are equally soliciting the prayers and support of all electorates. We are also assuring you that we will do our campaign devoid of acrimony and hatred as we are all one", he assured.
On his part, governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, said in the PDP, they are "one big and united family that sees everybody as equal compatriots in the mission to salvage Nigeria and Nigerians from the deplorable conditions imposed on them by the failed APC led federal government.
'In the game of looking for people that will work satisfactorily and acceptable to all, we consider everybody to be important. We will equally get leaders for each polling units and council wards as 2023 election is a very crucial one for Nigeria and Nigerians at large", Tambuwal noted.
On whether he had any hidden agenda of backing the state PDP governorship candidate, Saidu Umar, Tambuwal said, "I can assure all of you that there was no arrangement on what Saidu Umar will remit to me every month for giving him the ticket.
"I have no monetary reward nor any appointment plans with the PDP governorship candidate. As we innuagurate our campaign team today, I am convinced that with God on our side, and your support, PDP shall win in Sokoto.
"In 2019, I committed myself to a campaign of no violence, a rancour free campaign and I can assure you that come 2023, I still stand by that promise".
Talking on why Nigerians should vote out APC at all levels, Tambuwal who is the Director General, Atiku Abubakar Campaign Council, said the indices are crystal clear for Nigerians to compare between the 16 years of PDP and the 7 and half year of the ruling APC.
"When you compare the two, you will realise that Nigeria has been taken back by the APC led federal government in every aspect of human endeavours, hence the reason why we in the PDP have come on a rescue mission come 2023", Tambuwal stressed. NNL.
