As the fire of his defection from the PDP to the ruling APC continues to rage on, Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has said he is in consultation with God to decide his political future, even as he has told God that he would like to quit active politics in 2023.
Umahi who spoke during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today last week Friday and monitored by NIGERIAN NEWSLEADER NEWSPAPERS, stated that his political future as regards his rumoured Presidential ambition in 2023 still remains in the hand of God.
Although not many people believed the governor, there are strong speculations in high political quarters in Nigeria that his quest to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 who governor Umahi is said to have a good cordial relationship with despite belonging to opposing political platforms before now, was responsible for his defection to the APC last week Wednesday.
Governor Umahi told Channels TV during the interview that: “My future is in the hands of God. I have told God I want to leave politics in 2023 and because my life is owned by him, I need his permission on anything that is called future. This is my own decision, but God’s decision takes precedence over my own decision".
Umahi who is presently threading cautiously in his new political abode essentially for reasons of his freshman status, however said he needs to fully study the rule book and programmes of the APC before plunging into its internal politics and intrigues.
His words: “I have not studied the manifesto of the APC. I am just a brand new child, I should be pampered very well in the APC. I will have to learn how to walk, run before I can answer the question about the ideologies of the APC".
Umahi spoke in obvious response to the barrage of attacks on him by his former party, the PDP and the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, for daring to betray the party by his defection to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Governor Wike who spoke in portharcourt, said Governor Umahi left the PDP because he wants to be the presidential candidate of the APC in 2023 and not as a result of any alleged injustice meted on the South East by the opposition party. NNL.
