A Governorship top contender in Benue State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Chille Igbawua has outlined his agenda for the gubernatorial seat of the state in the 2023 general elections.

Igbawua assured at the weekend in Makurdi, Benue state capital, that if elected as governor in 2023, he would strengthen the traditional institutions, through budgetary provisions that would eliminate financial incumbrances that often make it difficult for paramount heads of communities to respond promptly to security emergencies in their domains.

The aspirant also promised that as next governor of Benue state, he would strive to foster greater economic development ties with expatriate Development Partners with a view to elevate the standard of living and health of the Benue people, particularly in the areas of environmental sanitation. Such partnership, he said, will save the state more money for other critical sectors.

Igbawua's promises were contained in a statement on Saturday, August 4, 2021, by the Media Coordinator of his Campaign Organization, Andrew Oota, a former Editor in LEADERSHIP newspapers.

According to the statement, Igbawua who is the immediate-past Chief Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission (PCC) spoke when he addressed His Royal Highnesses, the Tor Kwande (Chief Ambrose Pine Iotyegh), the Tor Sankara (Chief Abu King-Shuluwa) and the Tor Jechira (Chief Clement Ugandan) along with their traditional cabinet members.

Igbawua however assured that agriculture will receive a big boost in his administration, stating that he will deploy advanced instruments and resources that would mechanize agriculture and food production systems in the state. The former Permanent Secretary in Benue State also promised to address the yearnings and aspirations of the Benue people, particularly the challenges of insecurity, Foreign Trade, and Investments, as well as industrialization, through Cooperatives and the Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) patterns.

Hon. Igbawua, a former West African Coordinator of Ombudsman and Director at the International Ombudsmen Institute, in Vienna, Austria, also maintained that his policy to restructure the Settlement patterns by creating border settlement-towns in Benue State, will build a strong resistance to external attackers and pave the way for developments, a reserve of vast lands for mechanized Agriculture and in-turn, promote all-season farming that would feed the small industries with raw-materials as well as Foreign Trade.

He commended the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, for always standing to speak for the people of Benue State against the spate of senseless attacks and the governor's insistence that everyone within the state must obey the Anti-open Grazing law. Igbawua however added that if elected governor, his administration will ensure more tough legislation in that regard, insisting that the interest, protection and well-being of the Benue people must be paramount, at all times.

In his response, the Tor Kwande, Chief Ambrose Pine Iotyegh, expressed happiness that Honourable Igbawua, a former Deputy Chief of Staff and Special Adviser on Legal and Legislative Matters to the former Speaker of the House of Representative and now governor of Sokoto State (Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal), so far, has no record of inefficiency and criminal behavior both in the state and at the national and international levels.

The monarch added that Igbawua's promise to restructure the settlement pattern of the Benue people stands amongst the other well-intentions of the governorship aspirant if elected.

The Tor Kwande also expressed delight that his Council members have all give good accounts and testimonies about the aspirant, adding that Hon Chille Igbawua's international exposure will have a positive influence on his administration if he becomes Governor. He however offered his royal blessings on the aspirant. NNL.
