Following the defection by the former House of Representatives Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara, from the PDP to the APC last week, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bibi Dogo, has called on the Federal House of Representatives to declare the seat of Bogoro, Dass, Tafawa Balewa vacant.
He said Dogara's reasons for the defection was not cogent enough to warrant him quitting the PDP fold.
Dogo made the exhortation in a statement to newsmen in Bauchi on Monday. He said that the defection of Dogara is an act of Political indiscipline, adding that the people of Bogoro , Dass and Tafawa Balewa who elected him under the platform of PDP are no longer comfortable with his continuous defection in the House.
"We do not know of any convincing reason why he defected to APC. He did not consult us before his defection, so I hereby call on the Reps leadership to quickly declare Dogara’s seat vacant to enable the constituency elect a capable replacement"
"The People of the constituency have started setting machineries in motion for Dogara’s recall and the process will soon commence in earnest because we will not condone political indiscipline. The reasons given by Yakubu Dogara in a letter sent to his ward chairman are nothing but flimsy excuses"
"On the alleged money that was awarded for the purchase of vehicles in the administration of Governor, Bala Mohammed, the money is N3.6 billion and not N4.6 billion as wrongly cited by Dogara who is also one of the beneficiaries of the vehicles. Concerning the delayed local government elections in the state, It is because of the Covid 19 pandemic that delayed the elections and a date has been fixed by the State independent Electoral Commision for the election to be conducted in October" The statement read
Dogo said it is very shameful for Dogara to dump APC in 2019 elections and quickly return to pick the same broom he said was not sweeping well, alleging that there were rumours from many quarters that Dogara’s return to APC was initiated to cover himself from the mess of NDDC that is now booming.
He alleged that Dogara had made three defections in recent times, having moved from PDP to APC ahead of the 2015 general elections, pointing out that he moved from the APC to PDP ahead of 2019 general election and he now moved again from PDP to APC.
“His jumping from party to party is an act of political indiscipline but you know that a rolling stone has no stamina. Unfortunately too, he lacks the political discipline to be trusted with any public office in Bogoro , Dass , Tafawa Balewa. You cannot trust a man whose only political antecedent is jumping from one party to another" Dogo stated. NNL.
