There was voters apathy in Bauchi local council polls as there was low turnout of voters in many poll units visited in Alkeleri local government area of Bauchi state due to late arrival of election materials.

Situation Report monitored by NEWSLEADER on Saturday revealed that the development in the local government and reports that many of the voters who came earlier to cast their votes, left the polling units in anger as they claimed that they had important engagements.

At the Alkeleri Central Primary School polling unit which also doubles up as election distribution center, election was yet to commence as electoral officers were still collecting the ballot papers and boxes as at 10am.

In an interview, the presiding officer of alkaleri central primary school polling unit, Ukasha Abubakar, said the delay in the commencement of the election was because the local government is large and may take long time before the electoral materials reach some units.

"We started the distribution of election materials as early as 5am due to how large the local government is.We have already distributed the materials to all the villages and this what delayed us from commencing early", he said.

He assured that the election will start at the polling station, saying that he is presiding as soon as voters are accredited. NNL.
