The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday, declared the incumbent Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, as the winner of the Saturday, March 18, 2023 governorship election in the State.
Governor Mohammed who polled 525, 280 votes to defeat his closes rival in the All Progressive Congress (APC), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar (Rtd), got 432, 272 votes.
Announcing the results, the Bauchi State INEC returning officer, Abdukareem Mohammed, said, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed having satisfied all the electoral requirements of the laws and scored the highest number of votes counted, is hereby returned elected and declared winner of the 18th March 2023 governorship elections in the State.
Shortly, after the declaration of the results, the People Democratic Party (PDP) agent, and returning officer, Aminu Hassan Gamawa, commended INEC for a job well done. He thanked the people of the State for the love and massive support shown to the Governor by voting him for a second term in office.
In a related development, the All Progressive Candidate (APC) agent and returning officer, Abdulmumini Kundak, refused to sign on the results sheet paper, "Saying the results were cooked up for the ruling party",
Fifteen candidates from the various political parties contested the governorship elections across the 20 local government areas in the State.
