The Bauchi Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commended the journalists for their role and support during the just concluded 2023 presidential, National Assembly, gubernatorial and State Assembly general elections in the State.
The commendation was given by the Bauchi State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mohammed N. Bulama, during an interaction with the media in his office on Monday, in Bauchi.
He noted the high level of professionalism shown by media organizations in covering the election was commendable, from the registration of voters and continued voters registration, the introduction of the Bio-model Voters Accreditation System B-VAS on sensitization, mock accreditation exercise as well as coverage of the entire election across the 20 LGAs in the State.
According to the REC, "Without you and your various organizations' support, we couldn't have achieved what we've achieved today. The success is very open to everyone since the very day of the whole process from last 2022 to date.
He explained that the support and adequate sensitization provided by the media organizations, has "made the overall success of the process which reduced our many challenges with the electorates before, during and after the exercise in the State.
"I'm highly delighted with the way and manner you people conducted yourselves and discharged your work. And on behalf of the entire INEC body, the management and staff, we highly appreciate your efforts, hardwork, sacrifice and support throughout the challenging periods. May the Almighty God, 'Allah' blessed you all.
"The electioneering campaigns coverage was a successful one. We didn't record any petition or complaint from any political party regarding refusal to carry out their jingles or political activities by any medium in the State. We highly appreciate that".
The REC, however, assured the journalists of the INEC's total support and cooperation whenever the need arose in line with their day-to-day assignments
Earlier, the leader of the journalists, Isah Hassan Jarawa, from the Bauchi State Television (BATV), however thanked the REC for his support to the media, especially in the area of interviews and in giving useful information on time.
Jarawa commended the State Resident Electoral Umpire for his concern about the media in the State and described him as a media-friendly REC ever witnessed in Bauchi State. NNL.
