Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command attached to Oji-River Division, in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a firearm, live ammunition, and other incriminating exhibits from him.

The arrest of the suspect, one Chijioke Abraham (male, aged 25), of Awka, Anambra State was carried out on June 13, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m, followed the operatives' swift response to credible information regarding his presence at a criminal blackspot within the Garki-Ugwuoba axis of Oji River Local Government Area.

One locally made double-barrelled pistol loaded with one live cartridge and a lighter were recovered from him.

The suspect is currently assisting the Police in ongoing investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending his criminal associates, as well as uncovering their involvement in cult-related and other criminal activities within the area. He will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

A statement by the Command's Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has reiterated the Command's unwavering commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the State.

He also urges residents to continue being law-abiding, vigilant and promptly provide credible information to the Police and other security agencies to enhance public safety and security. NNL.
