The Enugu State Police Command has arrested two suspected thieves in separate operations in Akpugo, Nkanu West LGA, and New Haven, Enugu, recovering a stolen motorcycle and tricycle. Operatives also recovered a POS machine, a heavy duty cable cutter and two bags containing new wrappers and female handbags suspected to have been stolen and abandoned by fleeing suspects.
The Command's Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement, that "On September 9, 2026, at about 5.00 p.m., operatives attached to Nkanu West Division, with the assistance of Forest Guards, arrested Nnamani Chekube Eze (male, aged 24) in possession of an unregistered Sanya motorcycle.
"The motorcycle was allegedly stolen from a male victim at Obuno-Akpugo, Nkanu West LGA. The suspect has made a confessional statement and is assisting with the investigation.
"In a similar operation, on August 30, 2026, at about 7.00 p.m., operatives of New Haven Division, while on patrol along New Artisan Market, arrested one Godwin Emmanuel (male) at an uncompleted building near WAEC Bus Stop, Independence Layout, Enugu. He was found in possession of a tricycle reported stolen earlier the same day from a church within the area.
"The suspect also confessed to stealing a Sumo pumping machine at Maryland, Enugu. He and the recovered tricycle were handed over to Independence Layout Police Division, where he was subsequently arraigned and remanded in Correctional Custody by the court.
"In a different operation, on September 3, 2026, at about 6.10 a.m., residents alerted the Police to some suspected thieves moving from Ugbo-Okonkwo towards the Powerline area, New Haven. Police operatives from New Haven Division immediately mobilised to the area, forcing the suspects to abandon two bags and flee. The bags, recovered with the assistance of the Neighbourhood Watch, contained 112 new wrappers and 29 female handbags, were subsequently identified and returned to their rightful owners. Further recovered are a Point-of-Sale machine and a heavy duty cable cutter.
"The motorcycle theft suspect will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation, while efforts have been intensified to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects".
The Command's Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has commended the operatives, community members and security groups for their vigilance and cooperation. He directed that the fleeing suspects be identified, arrested, investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, reassuring the Command's unwavering commitment to making Enugu State unconducive for unrepentant criminals.
