Organisers of the Face of Independence Nigeria Beauty Pageant and Heroes Award 2026 have outlined the criteria for selecting contestants, emphasising intelligence, character, leadership potential, patriotism and social consciousness ahead of the grand event scheduled for October 24 at Eko hotels and suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Executive Producer of the pageant, Mrs Catherine Ajije Oloidi in an interview following the auditions, said the selection process was designed to look beyond physical appearance and identify young Nigerian women capable of using the platform to promote national unity, community development and female empowerment.
She described the turnout at the auditions as encouraging, noting that the number and diversity of applicants exceeded expectations.
According to her, the contestants demonstrated ambition, confidence and a genuine interest in contributing to society.
She said the quality of applicants was impressive, with participants drawn from different backgrounds, including entrepreneurship, entertainment, modelling, education and advocacy. However, she stressed that beauty alone would not determine who advances in the competition.
The executive producer explained that the initial audition stage assessed contestants on confidence, communication, personality, presentation and overall suitability for the platform. Other considerations include intelligence, stage presence, character, talent, creativity, leadership potential, knowledge of Nigeria and current affairs, cultural awareness, social consciousness, personal vision, professionalism and discipline.
She added that contestants would have further opportunities to demonstrate their abilities at subsequent stages of the competition, with the ultimate objective of identifying a queen capable of representing the country with dignity, competence and a strong sense of responsibility.
“The question is not simply who is the most beautiful, but who is prepared to become a Face of Independence Nigeria,” she said, underscoring the pageant’s emphasis on purpose and service.
The executive producer described the platform as distinct from conventional beauty contests because of its connection to Nigeria’s independence history, patriotism, nation-building and the empowerment of young African women.
According to her, the crown represents a responsibility to serve as an ambassador of Nigeria, promote the country’s cultural heritage and contribute meaningfully to national development.
She noted that the pageant was deliberately positioned around Nigeria’s independence celebration to encourage reflection on the country’s history, present realities and future aspirations. She added that young women have important roles to play in leadership, entrepreneurship, the creative industry and community development.
Beyond the competition, the organisers intend to pursue initiatives in mentorship, entrepreneurship, leadership development, advocacy, financial literacy, communication, personal branding and skills acquisition.
The executive producer said the initiative also seeks to connect contestants with professionals, business leaders, creatives and organisations that could help them develop their talents and translate their ideas into sustainable opportunities.
She maintained that the platform’s benefits would not be restricted to winners, as the organisers were considering an alumni network through which former contestants could collaborate, access opportunities and support social causes beyond the competition.
On national unity, she said the pageant brings together young women from different states, ethnic groups and cultural backgrounds, providing an opportunity to celebrate Nigeria’s diversity and shared identity.
She added that the platform would showcase Nigerian fashion, music, food, creativity and cultural heritage while encouraging contestants to demonstrate patriotism through meaningful contributions to society.
The executive producer further disclosed that the organisers were open to partnerships with individuals, businesses and organisations interested in supporting the initiative. Prospective partners were encouraged to visit the pageant’s official website for further information.
