A new multimedia publication, The Nigerian Local Government News, will unveil its magazine arm on Saturday, October 24, 2026, as part of efforts to promote development communication and grassroots development in Nigeria and Africa.

The publication, which aims to build what its promoters describe as Africa’s first authentic development communication media ecosystem, will serve as the flagship brand of the proposed media chain.

David Tosin Bakare, a journalist and former marketing director of an international brewery, is the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, while the organisation’s chairman and veteran journalist, Mallam Garba Shehu, a former Presidential Spokesman and ex-President emeritus of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) is overseeing the initiative.

The choice of October 24, which marks World Development Information Day, is intended to highlight the publication’s development-oriented mission and attract global attention, particularly from development partners and other stakeholders.

A national launch is expected to take place in Abuja in the coming weeks. NNL.
