Armed men suspected to be terrorists have reportedly bombed a local bridge linking Nuku and Woro communities in Borgu Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger state.

The early Monday morning attack which has affected travelers, according to eye witness from the area, disrupted not only vehicular movement along the Wawa and Luma road, Borgu LGA but the local Monday markets.

"The bombing of the bridge linking the communities by armed bandits have created panic amongst traders at the Babanna major border market that holds every Monday", one of the locals told our correspondent on phone.

The latest coming barely forty eight hours after the Eid-el-fitr celebrations is one of the series of attacks and months of siege on Borgu and Agwara LGAs without reasonable response or counter offensive by security agencies for normalcy to return in the affected communities.

The terrorists, he further explained had planted the IED along the road between Nuku and Woro, and a vehicle stepped on it leading to the deaths of all the undisclosed number of occupants.

The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO), Niger State Command, Wasiu A. Abiodun confirmed the attack but could not give the exact number of casualties.

The PPRO said, "On 23rd March 2026 at about 6.30am, report received revealed that at about 2am same day, suspected terrorists within the National park forest used explosive devices to bomb a bridge along Luma road, Borgu LGA connecting the Luma-Babana-Agwara communities".

"The bridge was damaged by the hoodlums to hinder security operations in the area", adding however that monitoring continues while clearance operations have been intensified. NNL.
