The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, AIG Miller Gajere Dantawaye, psc, on Friday 12th September 2026, paid a familiarization visit to the Anambra State Police Command as part of efforts to strengthen operational coordination, foster closer working relationships and enhance effective policing within the Zone.
The AIG was warmly received by the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, alongside the leadership and personnel of the Command.
The visit, according to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Zone, ASP Chidera Oha, provided an opportunity for the AIG to interact with the Command’s leadership and personnel, familiarize himself with the operational environment and further strengthen the existing relationship between the Zone 13 Headquarters and the Anambra State Command.
The visit also forms part of the AIG’s ongoing efforts to enhance personnel development, operational competence and readiness. On 8th September, 2026, AIG Dantawaye lectured personnel of the Anambra State Command on the use of arms, proper assembling and disassembling of firearms, and operational competence. The training was aimed at improving the knowledge, confidence, proficiency and professionalism of personnel in the effective discharge of their operational responsibilities.
During the familiarization visit, the AIG emphasized the importance of professionalism, discipline, dedication to duty and respect for the fundamental rights of members of the public. He charged officers and men to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities and discharge their duties with integrity, courage and a strong sense of responsibility.
The AIG further warned personnel against taking over cases from other police formations or units without proper authorization, stressing the need to respect established investigative procedures and the chain of command. He equally cautioned officers against allowing themselves to be dragged into purely civil matters, particularly land and property disputes, which do not ordinarily constitute criminal matters. He directed personnel to maintain professionalism and avoid using police powers to interfere in or settle civil disputes, except where there is a clear criminal element requiring police intervention and in accordance with the law. AIG Dantawaye further stressed the importance of effective collaboration, intelligence-driven policing and proactive crime prevention, noting that the security of the people is a collective responsibility which requires commitment, cooperation and effective coordination at all levels of the Force.
He reiterated his determination to provide the necessary leadership, guidance and support towards improving the operational capacity of personnel, while ensuring that the Zone continues to contribute meaningfully to the maintenance of peace, security and public safety within its area of responsibility.
The AIG also encouraged personnel to maintain civility and professionalism in their interactions with members of the public, emphasizing that public trust and confidence remain essential to effective policing.
The familiarization visit is part of the AIG’s broader engagement with Commands and stakeholders within Zone 13, aimed at identifying operational challenges, strengthening coordination and promoting a more responsive, accountable and professional policing system.
The visit ended with a renewed commitment by the Zone 13 Police Headquarters and the Anambra State Police Command to work collaboratively towards ensuring sustained peace, security and public safety across the State. NNL.
