The Abia State Police Command, on Tuesday, received the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) Monitoring Committee on courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police at the Command Headquarters, Umuahia.

The delegation, led by its Chairman, Hon. Enwereuzo Chinedu, Mayor of Umuahia South Local Government Area, highlighted that Umuahia South has been designated as the pilot area where the Child Diversion Programme will be test-run.

The Committee presented the initiative, which focuses on diverting children aged 10–17 involved in minor offences away from detention and toward rehabilitation through counselling, community service, and reintegration, in line with ACJL 2015.

In response, the Commissioner of Police Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strategic collaboration.

He emphasized that such partnerships are vital for strengthening community policing, protecting child rights, and enhancing justice delivery in the state. NNL.
