The Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, has said that the president Muhammadu Buhari led administration has been making sincere efforts to proffer sustainable solutions to the demands of protesting citizens.

The minister made the remarks while briefing journalists on End SARS protest at the Police Headquarters in Sokoto State.

He said SARS was established in 1992 to deal with mutating crime patterns especially armed robbery and other criminality.

The minister stated that, some personnel of the SARS unit desecrated ideals of SARS and trampled on the professionalism , acceptable conducts which brought dishonor, disrepute and odium to the entire police force.

He said efforts were made by successive police administration to reform the unit before the latest outburst leading to end SARS protest.

Dingyadi maintained that Government was deeply pained by reports of brutality by some personnel of the defunct Special Anti Robbery Squad, adding that all that is required would be done to secure justice for the victims and reel out punishment for those found culpable of violating citizens right to serve as deterrent to others.

According to the minister, the disbandment of SARS has been fully implemented by the Inspector General of Police across the country.

He said all personnel of defunct SARS were directed to report at the Police Force Headquarters for debriefing on mental and psychological evaluation.

He said it became imperative for the Government to set up a professional outfit, code-named, Special Weapon And Tactical Team ( SWAT) to replace SARS.

He further explained that shortlisted officers of the Squad have already commenced training at the Police Mobile Training Schools at Ila Oregun in Osun State and Ende Hills in Nasarawa State.

He stated that all those who indulge in looting and other criminal activities during the End SARS protest would be prosecuted according to the law.

The minister appealed to the End SARS protesters to call off the protest in the interest of peace especially now that their key demands have been met by the Federal Government. NNL.
