  • * Stealing From Farms Reality Of Worst Economic Situation

By Princess Simon (Bureau Chief North Central, in Minna)

As the 2023 general elections draws nearer, an elder statesman in Niger state, Alhaji Aminu Muhammed Sanni, has challenged Nigerians, youths in particular, to resist temptations of selling their votes or refusing to participate in the build up to the elections out of fears that their votes will not count.

Aminu Sani made the declaration at the formal inauguration of Niger state chapter of the, Nigerian Youth Movement for Peter Obi & Datti Ahmed (NYMPODA), which took place at Vagosh Hotel, Minna, the state capital over the weekend, saying the level and reality of hunger and frustrations in the country has become the worst in Nigeria’s history.

Sanni, a farmer cum politician, said it is no longer news that Nigeria is faced with the worst socio-economic realities in history, and this, according to him, should be a thing of concern to every patriotic Nigerian eager for a better future for all.

The elder statesman said his greatest regret is losing this year’s farm yield he had borrowed money for to thieves who went ahead of him to harvest the crops before his arrival. He therefore wants the youths to rise up against politicians who have nothing to offer the country in 2023.

“We have heard some politicians being described as very stingy. What has those who are not stingy done for us over the years? After collecting ¼ bag of rise, macaroni or common tomato paste, you will never see them again until four years after. Let us be wise this time around!

"For the fact that people now go to farms that are not theirs to harvest crops is a clear indications that we are indeed in perilous times", Aminu Sanni pointed out, and therefore encouraged the youths to do all that is legally possible to ensure an end to bad people hijacking the leadership positions in Nigeria as from next year.

Sanni said the worst mistake any youth can make is not to participate in the coming polls. According to him, this would amount a great injustice to self and to the generality of Nigerians. " It means that you as a youth tactically accepted to mortgage Nigeria’s future by selling your votes or refusing to vote at all on election days", Sanni said

The elderly farmer said the greatest weapon deployed by politicians to destroy the country and Nigerians is religion and tribal sentiments. He therefore encouraged Nigerians, youths in particular to rise above this trend for a better Nigeria where every Nigerian will be happy.

Speaking earlier, the National Convener NYMPODA, Dr. Emmanuel Ndubuisi, said the group is out to ensure good governance based on equity, fairness and justice, and also devoid of religious, tribal and regional sentiments for all Nigerians.

Lamenting that Nigeria has become a laughing stock to other countries, Ndubuisi urged the Philip Isah Gwada led 17-man executive to mobilise Nigerlites towards ensuring that only credible candidates emerge at the local government, state and federal levels in 2023 elections. NNL.
