The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), of Sokoto, Umar Yusuf Garba has disclosed that, they will begin distribution of Permanent Voters Cards for those that registered in the 2025 Continues Voters Registration Excercise.
The REC, Umar who made the disclosure Thursday while addressing newsmen at the Sokoto State Secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), also assured that those currently displaced by insecurity and are leaving in the various Internally Displaced Persons homes across the State will not be disenfranchised.
Umar who said the voters registration will equally be displayed for people to make claims where necessary, assured that, they remain committed to serving Nigerians.
According to Umar the display is to enable eligible voters who could not collect their cards at the RA level to do so, adding, "We intend to visit all IDPs centres on continuous basis so that every aspect of the exercise went smoothly, peacefully and transparently.
"The exercise is conducted in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, as amended, which provides for the display of the Register of Voters 90 days before the General Election."
He further appealed to all registered voters to visit the designated display locations within their respective Registration Areas between 9th and 15th October 2026 to verify their details and report any errors, omissions or objections through the prescribed channels.
The State REC also noted that they are yet to give holistic details of registered voters, hence the process is still ongoing for those that registered lately. NNL.
