A women-focused development initiative aimed at strengthening the participation of women and girls in leadership and decision-making processes has commenced in Bauchi State, with stakeholders pledging support for its successful implementation.
The project, known as the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (RWVL) Project, is funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by ActionAid Nigeria through Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative.
Speaking after a series of community sensitisation and mobilisation visits across selected communities in Bauchi, Program Officer of the project, Madam P. Yanga, said the initiative seeks to improve women’s representation and influence in policy formulation, governance and community leadership.
She explained that the project targets women from diverse backgrounds, including young women, widows, divorcees, women living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups to ensure that no category is left behind.
According to her, sensitisation activities were conducted in selected communities across Alkaleri, Kirfi and Bauchi Local Government Areas, attracting between 48 and 60 participants in each location.
“The project is designed to amplify women’s voices and promote their active participation in decision-making processes at all levels. We are deliberately inclusive because every woman deserves an opportunity to contribute to societal development,” she said.
Yanga noted that male advocates, youth leaders, traditional institutions, security agencies and local government representatives also participated in the meetings, demonstrating broad-based support for the initiative.
She added that community leaders and residents pledged their cooperation to ensure the project achieves its objectives over the next four years.
The RWVL Project commenced in 2025 and is expected to run for five years across selected communities in Bauchi State and other parts of Nigeria. NNL.
